Day 31: What other RPGs has this game inspired you to try?
Ah the places I’ve been, the things I’ve seen…
How do I play thee? Let me count the games…
- Gamma World
- Boot Hill
- Middle Earth Role Playing
- Pathfinder
- Dungeon World
- Star Wars RPG
- Twighlight 2000
- Traveller
- Savage Worlds
- Achtung! Cthulhu
Out of those, I had a good attempt at MERP and Traveller while the remainder just occupy shelf space. Star Wars (West End Games) was promising, but I couldn’t find anyone who was interested enough to play.
And then there are all of the tabletop strategy miniatures games too. Too many to list, but the biggest effort towards playing was for the LOTR SBG (back to my origins there a bit, eh?)
And thus we come to the end of the challenge. Thank you for indulging me and making it this far. This exercise has made me think a lot more about D&D – about how I play and what I hope to get out of it – and has rekindled/reinforced my love for it. It is an amazing game that has brought me 40 years of enjoyment so I thank Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson and TSR for creating something phenomenal.
