D&D Challenge Day 11 – Favourite Dungeon Type/Setting

Day 11 – What is your favourite dungeon type or setting?

Swamps.

Swamps are fascinating places – very atmospheric, teeming with life and guaranteed to be filled with the most deadly of creatures. Hidden amongst the drowned trees, expect to find vine-covered temples, pyramids, and other evidence of lost civilisations.

In my Rift-world setting, the Egyptian city of Shedet (about 70 miles south east of of the great pyramids) sits on the shores of the Faiyum Oasis. The Greeks named it Krokodilopolis – the City of Crocodiles. A Rift event occurred here around 200AD and the city was drowned beneath the turgid waters of the oasis. The inhabitants fled and the city was abandoned, left to be reclaimed by Nature – and possibly by things less natural.

Swamps, like all surface settings, can be exploredin any direction. The players can choose whichever path they wish to follow (if they can find a path) rather than the structured layout of a dungeon setting. And they have crocodiles.
