With a new knifeblade in hand…

I have made a start on the castle, cutting out the entry gate and plastering a part of it ready for scribing in the stonework.

Checking for size

The picture here shows the gate compared to a 1:56 scale Opel Blitz – checking it for size against a number of vehicles and figures showed that it was pretty much on the money. After smearing it with Polyfilla and letting it dry, I began to scribe in the stonework. I don’t want to attempt to do the whole facade all in one day, because that much polyfilla will warp the piece.
While waiting for the next lot of polyfilla to dry, I made this sentry box. Every self-respecting castle has to have a sentry box out the front – the heroes need something to crash their stolen truck through!

I have more shots of the gate with various models being tested for fit, if you want to see them 1) an M20, 2) a Rohirrim Royal Guard and 3) A helmet tank from Pax Limpopo

  1. Just curious Dag but about how thick is the polyfilla

  2. It’s about 1mm on average. Any thinner than that and you start to cut into the base when you carve out the mortar joints. And you need to leave it for at least 6 hours so it’s properly set.
